Elon Musk says he lost 20 pounds, embraced fasting

Elon Musk revealed over the weekend that he’s embraced intermittent fasting – weeks after the billionaire faced trolls online after photos surfaced of him lying shirtless on a yacht near Mykonos.

Musk, 50, told his followers on Sunday that he was “more than 20 pounds lighter of my peak (unhealthy) weight”. He said occasional fasting has contributed to the success of his recent diet.

“On the advice of a good friend, I have been fasting periodically and feeling healthier,” Musk tweeted.

Musk referenced his use of the “Zero” fitness app and described it as “pretty good.” The app bills itself as a resource for users to “unleash the power of intermittent fasting to lose weight and improve your metabolic health.”

In a tweet to another follower, Musk said he also lifts weights “a little”.

Musk caused a stir on social media in July after Page Six exclusively obtained photos of the pasty-looking Tesla boss as he relaxed on a luxury yacht with William Morris Endeavor boss Ari Emanuel , and his new wife Sarah Staudinger.

The world’s richest individual poked fun at himself on Twitter as the pictures started popping up in memes.

“Haha damn, maybe I should take my shirt off more often… release the pinch!! (already back at the factory by the way)”, Musk tweeted at the time.

Musk commented further in July in response to a post from the @WholeMarsBlog account, which criticized people for making fun of the billionaire’s physique.

“Per new CDC guidelines, anyone who posts a shirtless selection of @elonmusk to make fun of him must also post a shirtless photo of themselves for comparison,” the account reads.

“Tbh that’s good motivation to work out, eat healthier and maybe take my shirt off outside more than once a year haha,” Musk joked in response.

Musk also drew criticism from his father, South African engineer Errol Musk, who said his son was “eating badly” and suggested he take diet pills to cope with his weight.

In response, Elon Musk admitted he wanted to start exercising more often.

“I have to train and get in better shape,” Musk said. “Actually, I don’t really like training, but I have to.”

Intermittent fasting refers to “a diet that alternates between fasting and regular eating,” according to a blog post from Johns Hopkins Medicine.

“Research shows that intermittent fasting is a way to manage your weight and prevent – or even reverse – some forms of disease,” the post reads.

Musk must balance his fitness plan with a busy daily schedule that includes running multiple businesses, including Tesla and SpaceX.

He is also in the midst of a long legal battle with Twitter after he walked away from a $44 billion deal to buy the social media company. A trial to resolve the dispute is expected to begin in October.
